The purpose of this grant type is to provide funding for projects that will plant trees and vegetation to reduce GHG emissions and improve functionality of urban forests, arrest the decline of urban forest resources, address climate change resilience, improve the quality of the environment in urban areas, and optimize co-benefits to urban residents. Such projects may include the purchase of vacant, undeveloped, or underutilized neighborhood parcels for these purposes. These projects should focus on urban areas lacking in green space and must meet one or more identified community needs using vegetation. Projects with higher levels of co-benefits will be preferred. Projects with significant co-benefits will be preferred.  It is recommended, but not required, that the project will take place in an environmental justice community scoring 75% or above on the CalEnviroScreen 2.0 tool.
