Nicole Mayes is a part-time Management Assistant at California
Consulting. She is currently a full-time Master of Public Administration
student at the University of Southern California. She graduated from
the University of California, Berkeley in 2020 with a degree in Political
Science and with the highest distinction.
Upon graduation, Nicole returned home to Ventura County and worked in the District Office of Congresswoman Julia Brownley. During this experience, she developed a strong interest in pursuing public service opportunities at a more grassroots level, so she left the Congresswoman’s office to complete a yearlong AmeriCorps fellowship in the City Manager’s office of Santa Paula, CA. When her fellowship ended, she transitioned back to the federal level as a contracted Public Affairs Specialist with the United States Navy.
With ample local and federal government experience under her belt, she is excited to be back in
school to build the soft and hard skills required to grow into an efficient, empathetic, and
accountable public service leader. Because she intends to return to the local government level
after her studies, she is excited to support California Consulting’s important municipal grant
writing work as a Management Assistant.
In her free time, Nicole loves reading sci-fi and fantasy novels, exploring unique, historic places,
and watching the latest movies in theaters.
