NIJ Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence-Inventory, Tracking and Reporting Program (SAFE-ITR)

Amount: Up to $1,000,000 with total amount up to $5,500,000

Match: Not required

Eligibility: Eligible applicants are States1 and units of local government that collect, store, maintain, and/or send forensic DNA evidence to an existing and accredited crime laboratory that complies with the DNA Quality Assurance Standards and participates in the National DNA Index System (NDIS).

NIJ seeks applications from eligible States and units of local government that will inventory, track, and report the status of SAKs. As an integral part of these activities, applicants are also expected to identify and prioritize (for testing) SAKs for which prosecution of a perpetrator is soon to be barred by the expiration of an applicable statute(s) of limitations.
